Earlier this month, three EPASA Board members attended the European Forum on Music in Timișora, Romania. Organised by the European Music Council (EMC), this year's edition focused on "Music, Health & Wellbeing", exploring how music can support physical and mental health, strengthen resilience, and contribute to more sustainable connected communities.
Below, EPASA Board member Marloes de Nul Shares her reflections:
Last week, I was in Timișora for the European Forum on Music, organised by the European Music Council. Together with my fellow EPASA Board members Jack Mahony and Natalie Roe, as well as former board members Guillermo Rodríguez, Monica Vejgaard and Mimi Harmer, I had a fantastic time.
The theme of the conference was health and wellbein in music. How can we use music as a tool to make life more bearable in times of crisis? When was the last time you listened to an album from start to finish, without any distractions? And how can we protect musicians from physical and mental health issues? These were just some of the questions discusse during the forum and they are still lingering in my mind.
I has a wonderful time meeting the other fellows of the EMC Fellowship Programme, learned a great deal (including a masterclass in European cultural policy 👀), experienced some fantastic concerts, and discovered what a beautiful city Timișora is!

With member portraits we would like to shine a light on the people who make up EPASA - our wider community beyond the board members. Through these portraits, we hope to get to know each other better: who you are, how you've engaged with EPASA, and how you see its role in your journey. We warmly invite our members - as individuals and/or groups - to get involved and share your perspectives. Our first portrait comes from Tiggy Blackwell:
Hey! I'm Antigone Blackwell, but everyone calls me Tiggy! I have been Students' Union President at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama for the past two years, where I previously studied Jazz trombone, and during that time I've had a lot of fun with EPASA!
My first experience with EPASA was at the 2024 AEC Congress in Milan, followed by the 2025 Congress in Salzburg. Across both events, I engaged in discussions on topics such as sustainability, AI, and the challenges facing students in higher music education, while also meeting a passionate, inspiring and growing community of students from across Europe.
I also had the pleasure this year of attending the AEC Pop and Jazz Platform in Helsinki. This was an amazing opportunity to meet students from jazz and pop backgrounds, which meant meeting lots of new people with similar interests to me. At this conference myself and Natalie Roe did a presentation about inclusion at jazz and pop jam sessions, and it was great to see such strong student engagement. It was also fascinating to hear the differing perspectives between educators and current students. We also had a lot of EPASA members respond to our research survey which was amazing to see and we are extremely grateful for that!
I think EPASA is an ever growing community that gives students a space to feel welcome at these conferences, which is so important! Now my time at conservatoires is coming to an end, I look forward to watching EPASA from afar and see it continue to go from strength to strength.

AEC Annual Congress 2026 (Hamburg, Germany)
From 4-7 November 2026, the AEC Congress will take place in Hamburg, bringing together students, educators, and professionals from across Europe.
For students, this is a unique opportunity to engage in discussions, connect with peers and professionals in the field, and contribute to shaping the future of performing arts education. Your voice matters in these spaces. Student perspectives are essential to the conversations taking place.
The EPASA Board strongly encourage you to attend, take part, and represent your community. Come join us in Hamburg for great days of learning, sharing, and growing together!
EPASA Congress 2026 (Online & Hamburg, Germany)
The EPASA Board is currently preparing this year's EPASA Congress - and you are all invited!
This year, we are planning a hybrid format combining online sessions in September and October with in-person activities during the AEC Congress and EPASA General Assembly in Hamburg in November. More details will follow soon, but first, we want to hear from you:
What would you like to see, hear, or experience in an online EPASA session?
Share your ideas with us at hello@epasa.eu and help share the programme from the start!
Thank you for all your support for EPASA's new National Ambassador System - and not the least, for your applications!
We are currently in the review and selection process and will get back to all applicants very soon. We're truly excited to see such strong engagement from across the community and can't wait to get started.
The National Ambassador System connects performing arts students across Europe, creating new opportunities for advocacy, collaboration, and student representation at a European level. The initiative is funded by the Association Européenne des Conservatoires (AEC through its Creative Europe project.
Stay tuned!
